Dr Md Saiful Islam received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2007. He received his BSc degree (with distinction) in Computer Science and Engineering from Khulna University, Bangladesh in 1999.

Dr Islam has been working as an assistant professor in the College of Computer and Information Sciences, King Saud University (KSU) in Saudi Arabia since October 2010. Before that he was a research fellow in the School of Computer Engineering in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He was an assistant professor from 2006 to 2009 and a lecturer from 2000 to 2006 in Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Bangladesh. He also worked as an Adjunct Faculty member in Islamic University of Technology, Dhaka.

Dr Islam is a permanent research member of the Advanced Lab for Intelligent Systems Research (ALISR). His current research interests include Computer Vision and Computational Intelligence specifically objects categorization, image retrieval, biomedical imaging, and biometrics. Dr Islam authored several journal and conference papers. He is a referee for several international journals. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
